Georgia State Parks

The Department of Natural Resources’ Division of State Parks & Historic Sites manages more than 60 properties that preserve the state’s environment and history. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Colonial Coast, our sites offer an exceptional variety of resources:

  • Mountains & Canyons
  • Forests, Fields & Marshes
  • Waterfalls, Lakes, Swamps & Rivers
  • Battlefields, Historic Homes & Native American Sites

Through these sites, we provide important habitats for plants and animals, give people a place to enjoy the outdoors, and protect historic places where future generations can learn about the past.  It is our mission to protect our state’s natural beauty and historic integrity while providing opportunities for public enjoyment and education.

Friends of Georgia State Parks

The mission of Friends is to partner with, promote and preserve Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites. Statewide, Friends works to raise awareness of the economic and intrinsic values of Georgia’s greatest treasures. We work with state and community leaders to help make sure that our natural and cultural resources are well protected, well maintained, and well preserved for generations to come.

At the local level, more than 50 chapters work with their respective sites to support individual projects and programs. Statewide, volunteers contributed more than 75,000 volunteer hours last year. That equates to an in-kind value of over $1.5 million. In addition, our chapters raise funds to support local projects and programs that help make our parks and historic sites some of the best in the nation.

Friends are entirely supported by our members and donors. You can add your support now by becoming a Friends member or by making a donation. The front desk has information on various Friends Membership Programs and levels.

Friends of Georgia Veterans State Park

Georgia Veterans State Park is fortunate to have a dynamic and involved volunteer group, Friends of Georgia Veterans State Park, who are dedicating many hours to making our State Park a treasure among the parks in Georgia.  The group sponsors several festivals during the year to raise money for enhancements at the park and for the enjoyment of our guests and many locals.
